Central Plains Reining Horse Association

CPRHA Classes and Definitions

Open:

This class, as the name implies is open to any combination of horse and rider.  Anybody can ride in it.  Because there are no restrictions as to horse or rider, it is where you typically see the top trainers and toughest horses.  It is also where you may see the most exciting rides.
Intermediate Open: As Open, but limited to the rider who has won less than $5,000 per year using a three year averaging system.
Non Pro: Open to riders who have filled out a Non Pro Declaration and have been approved by NRHA to show in Non Pro Classes.  Riders are approved to show in this class by declaring that they have not trained horses professionally at any time during the previous three years.  A Non Pro may ride any horse as long as it is owned by the Non Pro, his or her immediate family or a corporation in which he or she owns controlling interest.  This is where Non Pro's can ride and not worry about competing against the trainers.
Limited Non Pro: For riders who have met the qualifications for the Non Pro Class (above) and who have won less than $350 per year using a three year averaging system.
Limited Non Pro Senior: As Limited Non Pro but limited to the rider who is 45 years or older as of January 1 of the year in which he or she is competing.
Rookie Reiner: The Rookie class is where reiners begin.  It is open to riders who meet the Non Pro qualifications above and who have not earned more than $100 in reining earnings.
Novice Horse: This is sort of the Rookie class for horses.  It is where they begin.  This class is open to any horse that has not earned more than $3,000 in NRHA approved earnings.  At the CPRHA reinings it is open to any rider, trainer or non pro.
Novice Horse Non Pro As Novice Horse (above) but limited to Non Professional riders as described for the Non Pro class.
Youth Open to any rider, 18 years of age or younger as of January 1 of the year he or she is showing.  There are no restrictions as to money earned by the horse.  The horse must be owned by the contestant or his/her immediate family or a corporation in which the contestant's immediate family is a majority stockholder.  For year-end awards there are two divisions of this class:  Youth 14-18 and Youth 13 and Under.
Green Rider: Open to any rider who has not won any reining class other than 4-H or a local open show.  Also the rider must not have won more than $50 in reining competition.
Green Horse This class is for horses that have never won a reining class.
